Kodály Level I at Saginaw Valley State University
Discover the joy and artistry of teaching music through the Kodály approach during this immersive two-week summer course at Saginaw Valley State University. Designed for music educators seeking to strengthen their musicianship, sequencing, pedagogy, and instructional confidence, Kodály Level I provides practical tools and strategies that can immediately be brought back to the classroom. Through engaging hands-on experiences in singing, conducting, lesson planning, folk song analysis, and musicianship training, participants will deepen their understanding of how students learn music best. Whether you are new to Kodály-inspired teaching or looking to build a stronger foundation, this course offers a collaborative and inspiring environment for growth alongside fellow music educators.
When: July 6-17, 2026 | Weekdays from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM
Where: Saginaw Valley State University
COST: Teacher price is $800. Student price is $500.

Presenters:
Larena Code Boyle — Larena Code Boyle is a respected Kodály educator known for her engaging teacher training work and commitment to joyful, sequential music learning.
Leticia Grutzmann — Leticia Grutzmann brings extensive experience in Kodály-inspired teaching, choral music, and developing expressive young musicians.
Melissa Stouffer — Melissa Stouffer is an experienced elementary music educator passionate about practical, student-centered Kodály instruction.

Our Classrooms Are Poppin’: Music Connections With A Pop Tune Twist
Incorporating pop music into elementary music classrooms can be a valuable tool for fostering musical literacy, cultural awareness, creativity, and joy among students. Let’s dive into an electrifying exploration where we’ll discover ways to seamlessly integrate the pop music your students love with essential musical concepts. We’ll also explore how to enhance learning both with and without materials, as well as creating dynamic performances that engage students and audiences alike. You’ll leave with practical lessons and activities tailored for K-6th grade, empowering students to see themselves reflected in the music they learn and perform.
